#AskPaulKirtley is my Q&A video and podcast series that aims to answer your questions about bushcraft, survival skills and outdoor life.
The idea here is partly to take the strain off my email inbox and get answers out to people in a more timely fashion.
Rather than send an answer to just that one person, I’d like others to benefit from the answers too. So, just in the same way I’d previously write an email answer, here I’m going to speak the answer (which is much quicker than me typing out an answer, so I’ll get more questions answered as well as benefiting more people).

Thanks Paul that was great, for anyone not on Pauls online courses they are really worthwhile and great value. Not being a gear geek :), you jacket looks new, I am always looking for stuff with a decent number of useful packets, how useful do you find sleeve pockets?
Hi David, thanks for your positive comments about this session as well as the online courses.
The jacket is definitely not new! But it has lasted well. If you look closely you can see some burn holes in it from blowing tinder bundles into flame. Other than that, there isn’t much wear and tear on it. I can’t say I use the sleeve pockets a whole lot but they are sometimes useful for stowing small items such as spare headtorch batteries, etc.
I can’t remember exactly when I bought this fleece jacket but….

So it’s a good eight or nine years old at least 🙂
It’s a Helikon-Tex Patriot Jacket. Good quality and very good value for money.

To answer your question about Spotify, #AskPaulKirtley isn’t missing from Spotify for any intentional reason. It’s simply that the bulk of #AskPaulKirtley epsiodes that I ever recorded were produced before Spotify opened itself up as a podcast platform. All episodes up t Episode 80, when I announced I was going to stop producing #AskPaulKirtley sessions for a while, were recorded before the end of 2018. Episode 80 was released early January 2019. Spotify didn’t open up as a podcast platform until October 2018. So, while I have produced a few #AskPaulKirtley sessions in recent years, I’ve just published the new episodes on the platforms on which it already existed.
This explains the history of how we got to where we are now. This all being said, though, it would probably be possible to retroactively put all the #AskPaulKirtley sessions on Spotify if they accept an application from me to do so. I did this with my Paul Kirtley Podcast series. Now that I am producing #AskPaulKirtley sessions more frequently again, and that many people such as yourself use Spotify for podcasts now, it’ll likely be worth the effort of getting these onto Spotify.
So, a long answer but thank you for reminding me I should probably get around to doing this 🙂

Very good episode lots of gems, two very f my favourites instead of square lashing is Japanese lashing, must faster to type, it was used to construct jungle bridges and the like, an other one that is fast is lose lashing, it’s a tripod lashing that uses lose frapping turns then Turing over the middle pole dose the tightening for a fast tripod for cooking and other tasks.
Hi Derek, thanks for your comments here. I’m glad you found some gems in this session 🙂 Yes, the Japanese lashing is a good one. The sheer lashing, and the similar lashing for tripods, are all very useful too. The more of these we have in our knot tool-box, the better.
