But remember if you want to ask a question for a future episode, don’t do this in the comments below, do it in one of the ways explained HERE.
What Is #AskPaulKirtley?
#AskPaulKirtley is my Q&A video and podcast series that aims to answer your questions about bushcraft, survival skills and outdoor life.
The idea here is partly to take the strain off my email inbox and get answers out to people in a more timely fashion.
Rather than send an answer to just that one person, I’d like others to benefit from the answers too. So, just in the same way I’d previously write an email answer, here I’m going to speak the answer (which is much quicker than me typing out an answer, so I’ll get more questions answered as well as benefiting more people).

Very good fire question we saw lots of damage from peoples irresponsible fire making in Sweden, one island which was totally destroyed no trees left there was a total fire ban at the time, your talk on the expedition course on fire safety really hits home just how careful you need be many thanks for your advice.
Hey Tony, it’s a shame thoughtless action leads to such damage, even in otherwise wild areas. I’m glad it gave further context to what we talked about at Windermere though. We had some interesting days on the Bloodvein this year but those fires had been started by lightning, not people. Still, it demonstrated the destruction any fire can wreak.
Glad some of the Exped course teachings were directly useful.
Cheers,
Paul
Hi Paul
Excellent answer, carelesness with fire has always been an issue, excasurbated this year by the long dry spell. Many thanks for such an in depth answer.
Hopefully many people will see this episode and bear in mind the points you made before they light their fires.
Best Regards
Duane
Hi Duane,
Thanks again for the question and I’m glad you liked the answer.
Warm regards,
Paul
I would LOVE to have a manual book from you, EVEN though you give information freely. I am a female who WANTS to read and execute your advice without batteries or a cellphone…i hope you could reconsider and have a pocket manual for the non-carrying electronic devices in the bush..ty
