PK Podcast 52: John Boe On PTSD, Finding Solace In Nature And A New Career In Bushcraft Instruction

PK Podcast 52: John Boe On PTSD, Finding Solace In Nature And A New Career In Bushcraft Instruction

Paul Kirtley Comments 6 comments

John Boe is a British military veteran with PTSD. In this podcast episode we have a candid discussion about John’s condition, how it manifested itself and how he came to realise he found solace in time spent in nature, especially in the woods. This ultimately led to a second career as a bushcraft instructor, delivering courses through Wildway Bushcraft, based in the South West of the UK.

Having John join me on this podcast was also a good opportunity to discuss aspects of John’s experience in establishing himself as a bushcraft instructor and starting his own bushcraft school, and to draw out some broader lessons for those looking for a pathway in bushcraft instruction.

Our conversation forms Episode 52 of the Paul Kirtley Podcast…

Really enjoyed this podcast. I really appreciate the experience of his ptsd as I can identify with those feelings and experiences. As well as the benefits of getting outdoors (alone). Thank you

Nice to have you back Paul. I was wondering if you have ever seen a Canadian bushcraft on YouTube called Greg Ovens rocky mountain bushcraft?

It would be great to hear a podcast with the two of you.

        Cheers.

Really good article, I myself have PTSD after service in the British Army and then private security work in hostile environments. My wife even listened to this and she said it helped her to understand better my situation and outlook on things. Anything that helps to explain it to my loved ones is much welcome as I always struggle to explain it.

This was an utter blinder of a podcast… I don’t feel this lacked at any level. The honesty, highs and lows were a mental roller-coaster I feel everyone should hear. Thanks John and Paul smashing well thought out questions. Felt the comment about the gardener a little but that’s probably easily fixed with a machete.
