Welcome to episode 6 of #AskPaulKirtley. In this episode, I answer questions about my bushcraft aspirations – personal and professional, favourite memories from the Bloodvein, bivvy tents, how to minimise the chances of being caught out by the weather, as well as wild camping in the UK – where we can go, where we can camp, where we can have a fire and how we preserve that privilege for generations going forwards….
What Is #AskPaulKirtley?
#AskPaulKirtley is my Q&A video and podcast series that aims to answer your questions about bushcraft, survival skills and outdoor life.
The idea here is partly to take the strain off my email inbox and get answers out to people in a more timely fashion.
Rather than send an answer to just that one person, I’d like others to benefit from the answers too. So, just in the same way I’d previously write an email answer, here I’m going to speak the answer (which is much quicker than me typing out an answer, so I’ll get more questions answered as well as benefiting more people).

You’re a cutie & I do try to listen to everything (while working on other tasks & e-mail), but they really are too long just to sit & watch. Please be more concise, e.g., everyone writes in “a really good question” so that’s one tag line that can be deleted.
Enjoyed the Hadza & Inuit documentaries, esp. from the different perspective of bushcraft skills that we urban dwellers consider quaint, but not particularly applicable.

About the questions: Tuesday or Thursday? I don`t mind wich day. Any day will do. Time needed for a show? Take the time you need to explain. If you you need 40 min then take 40min. I`ts your knowledge that i could use for my skills so take whats needed. Love the show by the way.

I dont mind it a bit when the episodes runs a little long, as long the information is usefull, relevant or just interesting.

I don’t think it matters which day you post these segments.
In terms of length I agree with the previous commenter Jeppe, if the topic needs extra time to explain it fully then it should get it.
Nice to see you cover the topic of weather. I am on a meteorology course at the moment run by a group of Royal Navy meteorologists and I am finding it a fascinating field of study and very useful both on the hills and when sailing. A good skill to develop.

Fellow bloggers, further to Mr Kirtley’s discussion about people who scar the land and leave rubbish everywhere. We all have a duty to look after this planet, not just for ourselves but for generations yet to come. People that have no respect for nature and it’s fragile beauty either need educating or prosecuting. Which one, I leave up to you. Many thanks. I apologise for my rant folks but it’s something I feel very strongly about and will now go and have a large port( sorry Paul, don’t like whiskey).

Do you mean are the sessions downloadable as an .mp3? If so, yes they are… It’s not always obvious though.
There should be a download button on the Soundcloud player but it doesn’t always appear. If it’s not there follow the instructions below…
Click on the Soundcloud controls in a place that will take you through to the track on Soundcloud (there’s a couple of different spots that will do this).
At the bottom right of the player on Soundcloud are a number of options, one of which is an arrow pointing downwards at a horizontal line. That’s the download button…
I will be getting these sessions onto iTunes as soon as I can as well though.

Any type of your internet postings is fine to me, I have become a fan. Anyday of posting seems fine. As for the length, you may consider to decide whether you want it to serve to answer questions or whether you want to tell a story. Now, it seems to be both? The latter might skew the audience away from people who specifically want to learn and more towards people who go more for the general feeling of bushcraft? Either could be fine, but that is fully up to you. 🙂

As to timing: I honestly leave the notification in my inbox until I have the time to listen and pay attention. The day doesn’t really matter much because of that.
As to length: I am cool with any length, really. I think the overall limit should probably be ~42 minutes at the longest. Seems like a strange number, I know. I derived it from the approximate length of an hour long TV show without commercials.

Like Gregg, I leave the notification in my inbox, then move it to the Paul Kirtley folder once read/watched.
Whatever day you choose to release the new episode is fine. As for length of program, that rather depends on the content and its complexity. Only you are competent to judge how much time you need. You don’t waffle, all you say is pertinent, to the point and in a friendly informal way which aids learning.
I have learnt and retained more from your friendly talks than from many other mentors. Moreover, all this information is freely available, so, no complaints from me.
I hope you keep up the good work for many more years to come. Also, keep on sharing those adventures!
